Communion/ReconciliationFirst Holy Communion and First Reconciliation
Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is a joint process for third graders and their parents. We use RCL-Benziger's "Reconciliation" and "Eucharist" curriculum to help prepare parents and their children. RCL's curriculum recognizes and builds on the fact that the primary people to prepare children for these sacraments should be their parents. In order to be eligible for sacrament preparation, the diocese requires that all children have been enrolled in faith formation for at least a year prior to the year that they prepare for the sacraments. The preparation sessions must then take place IN ADDITION TO THE REGULAR FAITH FORMATION PROGRAM (HOME SCHOOL OR F.I.R.E.). Each sacrament will require parents to attend an initial orientation gathering with their child where they will be introduced to the curriculum and the preparation process. Parents will then cover the material at home with their child before returning for a parent/child retreat.
If your child is eligible, you can enroll them for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion preparation on the regular Faith Formation Registration Form. Registered families will receive an email closer to the first gathering date which will allow them to sign up for the specific gatherings and retreats.
