An essential element of the Catholicl iturgy is the proclamation of scripture. While the Gospel is always read by a Deacon or Priest, the Old Testament and New Testament readings are proclaimed by a Minister of the Word. Ministers must possess a pleasant speaking voice, be able to gain and maintain the attention of the assembly and put life into the written word. Training and ongoing formation is provided to all Ministers of the Word. Scheduling is by mass preference and may include weekday, holy day and special liturgies.
