I’ve wandered the steep and barren fields of life Moving oft, seeking places of green Away from those often wasted and lost Longing for places lush, but not yet seen
Searching for nourishment and completion Moving roundabout with others, yet oft alone Seeking fulfillment of life’s deepest needs Yet finding myself oft lost and far from home
Sometimes I’ve followed, yet oft in the lead Heading n’ere toward less, but always more Seeking life’s self-fullness and completion Yet still never knowing what is truly in store
Slowly climbing life’s steepest new hills Away from a heart oft barren and lean Seeking food for body and spirit alike Trusting that which is heard not yet seen
Yet now I recognize His leading voice Clearly beyond all lifelong fear and tears And follow him, answering his loving call In total trust in that which I hear
For His voice of love is what I know And mine is known to Him As in total trust I must now go And listen closely, heart within
Dear Jesus I follow the sound of your voice And trust in where you safely lead Away from promises barren and the dry Toward a newborn richness I am freed
I trust to follow your familiar loving call For you gave all of your earthly life, I truly see I long to live forever in your loving embrace And to truly know you as you know me
