It is the Feast of Christ the King and the last Sunday of the Church year! Next weekend, we begin a new liturgical year when the Gospel of Mark is heard most weeks. I would like to encourage us all to consider the theme for the year—
Jesus, the Way!
What does that mean for us? I often have said when preaching that our Faith is not so much a set of beliefs, but a relationship with a person—Jesus. Jesus was not only the Word made flesh. Jesus actually showed us how to be human. Indeed, the only person who has ever been fully human
is Jesus. (We, on the other hand, keep trying to be God!)
If we want to know how to be most at peace and fulfilled as human beings, our eyes must be fixed on Jesus. But, He does not just show us the way to live. Jesus, Himself, is the Way. He is the Way to fulfillment. If our eyes stay fixed on Him, we will always find our way through life’s joys and sorrows, laughter and pain. It seems to me that as we enter a new year, that is not a bad idea!
P.S.
I hope you had a good Thanksgiving! As I write this almost two weeks early, I cannot be sure, but we hope to have an Open House at our new Lake House next weekend, as we start our new year.
