Jesus—The Way
I suspect that John 14:6 is one of the better known passages of Sacred Scripture. In response to Thomas’ question, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” Jesus answers, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” Jesus does not give GPS-kind directions, but tells Thomas and his disciples to simply focus on Him. Surely Jesus is an example of how to live life. Following His example has always been encouraged by the Church.
However, we are sinners and get lost on the way. What can we do when we find that we fail to follow His example? Jesus is asking us to trust Him. He does not want us to stop in our tracks, but to look to Him and trust that as Paul says in Romans 8:28, “all things work for good for those who love God.” Let us love God by keeping our eyes on Jesus. He is the GPS that will never fail, the path that will guide us home—always!
As we focus on this theme in the year ahead (this Sunday is the beginning of our “Church Year”), we will be using this prayer:
