Normally, I would be writing this letter on Monday, June 12. In fact, I am writing it the Friday before, because I am going to be in Phoenix, AZ. What am I doing in Phoenix? I am attending the LT-CYMC. What is that? LT-CYMC stands for
Life Teen – Catholic Youth Ministry Convention.
I attended this convention two years ago, and it was a neat experience. The enthusiasm and excitement—and yet a real prayerfulness—were enlivening and renewing. I am having the chance to be enriched again! I hope I will get to briefly meet with Bob Rice, who gave our Advent days of Reflection.
The Church is constantly changing to respond to each new generation. It is heartwarming to see the Spirit alive at this convention. When I see the leadership in this generation, I see that the Church is in good hands. The Church is never just for us, but a treasure to be handed on. Every generation must establish their own relationship with Jesus, the Father, and the Spirit. That is the real experience of our faith. We are called to be “children of God” – God has no grandchildren, only children.
So I get to be renewed along with my younger colleagues, youth ministers, and others who work with our youth. And I get to be energized for the future! I will be back with you this weekend!
