It sounds harder this year than ever. Lent 2020 was interrupted with a pandemic, and now we are left to ponder... did it really ever end?
Over the past year, what have we given up? What have we sacrificed to get to Lent 2021? This year has taught us the three important lessons in life, love, and loss.
Life is precious and fragile. This Lent, will you respect and nurture all aspects of life from womb to tomb? Are you able to see yourself and each human life as wonderfully made?
"I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works!
My very self you know."
(Psalm 139:14)
Love is the most important thing in the world. This Lent, will you love with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind? Will you allow love to transform you? Will you pray about what it means to say GOD IS LOVE?
"Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God;
everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God"
(1 John 4:7)
Loss. So much loss. The loss of family, friends, jobs, security, sanity... this Lent, will you turn to God during this time of upheaval and turmoil? Will you pray with God about following the path of turth in the midst of chaos?
"for it is said: Oh, that today you would hear his voice: 'Harden not your hearts...'"
(Hewbrews 3:15)
May you live with hope as we journey together through Lent 2021. May you know the abudant resilience of the saints before us who lived as examples of unceasing faith. And may you know God's love in your heart; that your heart be open to receive the mercies poured out in this season of reflection.
Lent in Three Minutes
Prepare for Lent
Prayer, fasting, and almsgiving are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and the catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or renewal of baptism at Easter.
Start the Lenten season with the reception of ashes as a sign of your commitment to God and to spiritual growth.
Ash Wednesday Services Wednesday | February 17 Mass: Distribution of Ashes | 7:30 AM & 7 PM Word Service: Distribution of Ashes | 12 PM The 12 PM and 7 PM services will in person and livestreamed. In-person distribution of ashes will be done differently this year.
This Lenten season, take the opportunity to repent and turn back. Learn the value of forgiveness, both given and received. Reconciliation offers hope and a new start.
