For many months we have longed To see and hear him at last Our friend, and now our inspiration Yet so much time has passed
We have known he and his father For many years, remembering when They came and built a table for us To help us serve family and friend
We’ve heard of Jesua’s life and works And have longed to hear from him As many have claimed he is the One That a new world will now begin
Lazarus has told us to prepare For Jesua and his disciples to come That they will visit us very soon Oh to see who he has become
To sit at his feet and listen As he opens up the very heavens With his presence and his Word For our lives he is the leaven
As he comes we bow in welcome To our dear friend from long ago Who now is hailed as David’s Son And to us a new life does show
I kneel at his feet with love Welcoming him back to our home His every word, precious to my ears As if spoken to me alone
For this holy Man, this dear friend We have known for so very long Yet I believe now that he is the One And now in his short presence I belong
For I know he will too soon leave And again we will not see him here For whatever time will soon pass It is time we will all hold dear
His words, his presence a treasure From which I cannot part For what comes forth from his mouth Tells of a new life and joy to start
I must stay to see and to hear I cannot leave to scurry about For he speaks straight to my heart Of this Son of David, I have no doubt
I must serve but I must too listen For his words are truth and life As he rests with us for a while Away from his trials and strife
My sister rushes to and fro Scurrying to serve and to please But I can only at his feet so kneel And listen in prayer and peace
From this day on he, I will follow To hear and serve to care for him As he is surely the Son of David In him all things new now begin
In his words and his healing Many have come to believe Yet he stays with us only a while And will soon for his destiny leave
Oh that he would stay A bit longer, just a little while His presence so joyous and good His words of pure joy not guile
Soon he has said he will leave To go to the temple to teach And I will follow as he goes To hear and to care and to be
Dear Jesus, In peace and longing I sit at your feet To humbly listen and learn For your holy words like honey so sweet Soothe and cool our fears like morning dew And as with love my heart does burn For your every word and breath is true Bringing truth and love for all in need A guide for us in our desert place For troubled souls a cooling breeze Help me to listen and to really hear Your blessed words of love and life And follow you without fear Through all of life’s stress and strife
