As time slowly passes In this lonely and desolate place Of wild and fright and dry My fears and prayers are one To my God in desolation I cry
All life seems parched and dead Not a drop or morsel to find I am so very alone in my prayer Wandering far and deeply I wonder For what reason and cause do I bear
Yet now in this isolation I hear A voice from above, so clear Calling me to show the way This voice deep in my heart Telling me For soon comes the day
Prepare the way I hear Earthly rulers will come and go But my word comes forth this day Go and show the path as foretold To all who fall so far away
Thus my desolate solitude now ends Return I must, to announce to all To call forth sinners to his mercy In water to cleanse and save And tell of the news which I forsee
I must make straight the way Awaken all to this news For soon he is to surely come To the fear of kings and princes He who is called The One
Out of desolation and into life’s water To call forth all who bear heavy yolk I must call out to all and for all That soon comes he who saves Now go I must, to heed his call
For soon all rulers and princes will bow As he, the One, comes as King To save beyond water alone With mercy and spirit and truth To build life anew with living stone
Of his coming I will call For mercy, I will reach out Bringing his forgiveness of sin And preparing for his coming day For in him new life will begin
Dear Jesus, help me leave behind All earthly dryness and fear Help me come to your water of love Leaving my wrongful ways behind And arise awakened Embracing new life and forgiveness And by my life truly follow you
