I want to thank everyone at St. Michael for your support and prayers, as I helped out at our twinned Appalachian churches. Holy Family Parish suddenly found themselves without a priest, as the assignment process fell through for them. The diocese called me and asked if I could help (I am the nearest priest who even knows how to find the churches in the parish!!). I said I would—only if they made sure the people here at St. Michael had a priest, as well. I thank Fr. Peter for coming over the last two weekends.
I can tell you that the people of Holy Family Parish were hurting. Having my familiar face made it a bit easier for them as they waited. This week they will be meeting their new pastor, Fr. Jujene Espeleta. I pray—and I ask you to join me in that prayer—that things will work out well for all involved out there.
Meanwhile, I really did miss being here with you. In my time in Appalachia, I came to realize that it really takes six to eight years to go from being the pastor named by the bishop to being a true
pastor—shepherd for the people of a parish. I can say that I really do feel myself to be your
pastor! With all my weaknesses and shortcomings, I really do want to serve you. I feel your love and support in return. Please pray that I may be a worthy shepherd to this beautiful flock! Together may we reflect the true Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ!!
Again, I thank you for your patience and support over the last two weekends.
