Since time immemorial On all minds and in all hearts And so often on our lips too Is How…dear Lord? What must I do?
And his answer is so clear With one powerful word: Love Sounding simple and clear Yet oh how often I fail So often do I miss, I fear
He longs for us as he is Love itself And as a child of this giving God I am called to love as he To shine and reflect it brightly To bring him to my world to see
For his love is given freely In return only desiring ours To have, to hold and to share For to him alone we offer our hearts Given by love, for love, as care
This love must grow and so branch Yet will not take root unless planted Growing deeper, reaching out to grow It will not flower unless fed Bearing only the fruit which we show
For his is a Holy longing That it be received and shared Returned with joy to the giver above Grown, nurtured, and spread To glorify the great God of love
This love is not ours alone to hold But dependent on our will to give To be both nurtured and shared Unselfishly and generously together To all with selfless care
To be given without reservation From our hearts to theirs To lift all up to him who is love To live this love through our life itself And to forever praise him above
Dear Jesus, you are the God of Love Help me to go beyond myself to love you fully By offering all I do and have to you Help me to love my neighbor as myself And unselfishly share and spread your love To all and everyone on my journey Especially those most in need
