He shocks us today as he speaks Of fulfillment of all foretold Of why all has happened and where And his reflections shared from old
He gives a shocking warning Of a rejection from his own And telling of dire things past As history has shown
Why should we believe him This Nazarene from us among We’ve known him since his childhood Yet now our history is sadly sung
Hurtful words of the past do fall Upon our ears today As he reminds us of our history In the words he does now say
It’s painful to our hearing The things he has to say And our anger wells up within us We must stop his speaking this way
Yet it is truth that he says This carpenter’s son of great power Challenging us all in him to believe Stop it we must this day and this hour
Yet now with power he has vanished From before our eyes just here And looking deeply at each other We’re filled with holy fear Dear Jesus, Help me to believe what I hear From the Spirit and Word To see truth with my heart In the teachings I have heard To hear clearly what you have said To face change with full trust And to live looking forward In faith as I must
