This weekend, we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. It is the last Sunday of the Church year. And how appropriate that we celebrate Jesus as our King. But what kind of king is He? One who lords over us? One who wants our praise, because He wants His ego stroked? One who hold His glory over us and blinds us with His light? One who puts Himself above and apart from us?
No to each of these questions! Our King has come to serve us. Our King has no ego problem. Our praise of Him feeds us, not Him, which is exactly why He encourages that praise. He wants to share His glory with us and light our way. Our King shares His Father and His Spirit with us so fully that WE can be considered siblings with Him and also consider God as OUR Father. WOW! This is no earthly king, but a heavenly one.
And so in the weeks ahead, we naturally turn to consider how that King has come and will come into our earthly lives—be it at His earthly birth or at the end of time. We consider this in the season of Advent. Next weekend, we will be celebrating the First Sunday of Advent and the beginning of the 2019/2020 Church year. It will be a year when we will hear much of the Gospel of Matthew. It is the year, also, when we will be reminding ourselves that Jesus is the Life, OUR life both now and in heaven.
PRAISE TO OUR KING!
