For centuries long had we waited In the barren desert all seemed lost Our prophets foretold of the Son of Man Hopelessness captured us at great cost
His people had moved far and abroad Holding their hope loosely in heart Their faith in the Father so waning And from him wandering so far apart
Who could foresee our undeserved salvation Through the cloud of our selfishness and sin A rescue from our own self destruction Oh that the Word foretold would soon begin
A dream that our Messiah soon come When he would lead us away from strife Beyond the parched dunes of emptiness Into the freshening waters of new life
Desolation and hopelessness have prevailed As we long for this Son of Man to come The darkness of our fate seemed eternal He, into this doubting morass, now comes
Yet now a foretold new voice calls us forth Crying out to us: prepare the way After all this time and wandering so very far Could he who comes be at last the One
A long dreamt and prayed for voice Sent from the love of the Father The Word himself now made flesh To fulfill the longed-for promise
For he who now speaks, this Jesua Has done marvelous deeds And speaks of his father as a Son Our hungry souls his words so feed
He now remains with us forever For he is his Father’s truth and grace The fulfillment of all promise His love to save his human race
Dear Jesus, Word made flesh Breath of the Father’s love Gift to us as his children Grace to us from above Be with us Jesus now and forever Lead us home and we will follow
