Fr. Nova ended up leaving a day early to get ahead of Hurricane Florence, but it was a joy to have him stay with me at the rectory.
Fr. Elizier left “big shoes” to fill, but Fr. Nova has the heart of a shepherd. I think he will do well in Dos Palais (I like the shorter Haitian spelling:
Dopale).
I want to thank all the people who helped in the Rummage Sale last Saturday. It is INSPIRING to me to see our members dive in and make the sale such a success. And indeed it was a great success! Not only did people find great bargains; not only did parishioners work together with a wonderful attitude; not only did we have a real impact in our Glen Allen community…but we raised over $32,000 to support the ministries going on in Dopale. In the school, the water system, and the clinic, we are reaching out to ALL the people in Dopale and the area.
In terms of the people of the parish of St. John the Baptiste in Dopale, you all were wonderful in giving them, in particular, our support through your donations to the first collection last Sunday—over $13,000. Pride can be dangerous, but I cannot help being proud of St. Michael Parish when I see a week like this. Thank you and God Bless you!!!
