This weekend, we will be making commitment to support the many ministries of our parish through the sharing of our financial gifts. I will invite everyone to place those commitments at the foot of the altar. This is really at the foot of the cross. For what is offered on the altar is the sacrifice of Jesus, His commitment to you and me even to point of His death on the cross. His Body and Blood—His true and real presence—are a gift to us that he calls us to share.
We do that in so many ways. Ours is a vibrant and active parish community, and I am inspired by that. While I have obvious responsibilities in keeping the parish solvent, my deepest concern is encouraging our commitment to support these continuing ministries. By them, we witness to each other and the community around us. We make Jesus’ presence concrete. Please continue to join me (yes, I contribute to the parish, as well) in supporting our parish, and let us truly be, as Vatican II reminds us, the Body of Christ alive in the world.
