Our steps, slow and pensive As we move quietly from our fear Toward a time and place now unknown Unseen, seeking safety, escaping here
Words to us, come slowly now Our confusion, the pain that we’re apart Clouding our judgement, hurting our wills Seeking distance to heal our hearts
What we believed is now so confusing All we yearned for seems lost today What we dreamed seems like so much smoke Clouding our path now, blocking our way
Some of us remained, hidden, hoping Longing for safety, clarity, and belief For some clear sign of direction Some reason for all this dark grief
But from whom, other than Jesus From whom else will we ever hear He gave us his holy promise But sadly now he is gone from here
Heading toward the dim sunset A stranger suddenly now appears From where and how unknown This teacher gently sooths our fears
The fire in our hearts begins to grow As he opens up to us the Word We remember this Master’s teaching And learn the truth as more is heard
Longing for more as we hunger Our hearts for more they do ache As now our tears flow and their salt Spices the bread that he breaks
It is Jesus, Rabboni! How can this be? Who answers and speaks to us tonight Explaining his return just as he promised Then disappears from our sight
Our walk now a full joyful run To tell all the brothers of this day Our fear is at distance behind us And our joyful hearts now lead the way
Lord Jesus help me to recognize you in the Word, the Eucharist, and Together in prayerful joy Turn me back from the path that leads me away; and help me follow YOU…the Way, the Truth, the Life
