As from my lowly seat I strain to hear Over the clamor and shouts of men Who in anger yell out his name This Jesus from Nazareth Who joins us to worship here
Why I wonder are: The priests so angered by him The people so excited by him The Romans concerned about him The chosen disciples still following him The crowds so clamoring to see him
He makes the blind see and the deaf hear He cures the sick and casts out demons People say is Elijah or John the Baptist He eats with sinners and changes water to wine He even walks on water and teaches thousands
There is a fearful uproar after he has spoken To incite, unclean spirits now call his name They name him to show their knowledge With his firm word he silences even them As they crawl out, leaving, crying in fear
I see him closely and he looks like us I hear him but find his words hard to believe I feel his authority; from where does it come? I try to follow him but can't get close I want to believe but am scared to show
In his eyes I see that he knows me In my mind his Spirit now lifts me In my ears his words now sing to me In his voice I clearly hear his authority In his message I find such power and joy
I long to know much of him and follow Listening with joy as my heart burns From here, now on toward Jerusalem For I now believe what I have heard This truly is the Messiah, God's Son
Your words Lord lift my heart on high Protect me as I now must follow I know not fully the reason why Or to where I'll go come the morrow Yet true joy fills my heart and soul
